2017/12/2
TASK 1
If your friend takes a job working late in the night to earn money for a summer trip to Spain, but he goes to bed late and cannot concentrate on the class next day, what advice would you give him?

Sample Answer:
I would definitely suggest that my friend cuts his hours working at the restaurant. It seems like he is lacking energy in class which might negatively influence his class performance and grades. As a student, he should make studying his priority. Therefore, he should reduce the amount of hours he works to be less tired and more energetic in class. As for saving money for the trip, I would recommend looking for other less labor-intensive jobs such as being a receptionist or working as a library assistant. On the one hand, he can still earn a decent amount of money for his trip, and on the other hand, he can read books and do his homework when the work load isn’t too heavy.

做兼职 do a part-time job
做全职 do a full-time job
为了···赚钱earn/make money for ···
大/小工作量 heavy/light work load

TASK 2
Which one would you prefer? Go to a college in your hometown or go to a university in a new town?

To move to a new city or town sounds much more fun than staying in hometown. First of all, you get to explore and experience new landscapes and culture. For example, if you move from New York City to Los Angeles, you’d be saying goodbye the crowded city streets, skyscrapers, and fast-paced lifestyle and embracing spacious outdoor areas, the beach, sunshine, and a more laid back lifestyle. Second of all, going to a new town opens the doors to making friends from different places and backgrounds. Each person then brings their own traits, personality, even accent! That’d be much more fun to hang out and do stuff with diverse groups of people. And that’s why, I would prefer a different place for college.

闲散的 laid back
有机会做 open doors to something
结伴做某事 hang out and do stuff with someone

Out of the following three things, which one would you prefer to regulate in order to improve your health? The kind of food you eat;The amount of exercise; The amount of stress in your life.

对比之下,选择regulate the amount of exercise。

It is much easier and practical to regulate the frequency of exercising than to regulate the kind of food to eat and the amount of stress.

Exercising could almost immediately enhance people’s metabolic and immune systems, while it takes long time to receive any effect by regulating the kind of food to eat or the amount of stress.

Exercising regulation sometimes require certain balanced diet and it helps to lower the pressure.
