托福听力对话目的主旨都出现在开头?有哪些惯性思维我们需要避免?

托福听力对话目的主旨题看似简单,但却依然存在陷阱,一定要准确识别到文章中的目的主旨才能做到百分百正确率。

那什么是目的主旨呢?
其实很简单,目的主旨考查的是对话者的对话目的。
  

目的主旨典型问法:

Why does the student go to see the professor?
Why does the student visit the registrar’s office?
Why did the professor ask to see the student?
很多学生都有一个常见的误区,都认为目的主旨出现的位置一定是靠近文章开头部分的。当然,有相当一部分的文章确实如此,比如:
 
TPO 52, Conversation 2
Student: I like those ceramic coffee mugs you have on display at the other end of the store. Were they made by students?
Employee:Oh, we only use certain suppliers,wholesalers who've been selected by the store manager. 
Student: Do you ever sell things made by students?
 
1. Why does the woman go to talk to the man? 
A. To find out how the store pays artists for their work
B. To purchase some ceramic coffee mugs
C. To find out if the store sells objects made by students     
D. To ask about the advantages and disadvantages of consignment sales  
 
在这里不难看出答案是C选项。我们再来看一下目的主旨在文章中出现的位置:

很明显,目的主旨出现的位置确实非常靠前。我们再来看下一个例子。
 
TPO44,Conversation 2
Student:   Right now I'm doing the intro courses in the art department, but I'm really interested in painting.
Professor:   Well, I teach several of the painting courses … so I hope to see you in the future.
Student:   Actually I was wondering … you're in charge of student art exhibitions at the university gallery, right?
Professor:  Right.
Student:   So, I know all the exhibitors are students, but I was wondering how you choose the works you exhibit every month. Is there, like, a submission process or something?
 …
 
1.Why does the student go to see the professor?
A. To find out whether the university gallery accepts student artwork.
B. To find out how artwork is selected for university gallery exhibitions.
C. To learn the focus of an upcoming exhibition of student artwork.
D. To learn which techniques the professor will cover in his class on abstract art.
 
根据学生的话,也可以很容易的选到B选项,同样的,我们也看一下这句话在
文章中的相应位置:

我们也可以看到,目的主旨出现的位置相对于整个音频来讲还是比较靠前的,那我们可不可以这样认为呢——所有的目的主旨都出现在文章开头?答案当然是否定的,我们来看两个例子:

Professor:  Yeah, I teach one on Joyce every spring. It's such a privilege spending an entire term delving into a single body of work. And my students, they bring so much insight to the table that it's easy to forget who the professor is!
Student: Oh wow...uh, that could actually solve my dilemma, uh, what I originally wanted to ask you! Um, I'm working on my schedule for next term, and I've got room for one more course, and I'd like to take more Literature.Could I take your Master Writer class on Joyce?

 
1.Why does the man go to see the professor?
A. To discuss a grade he received on a paper
B. To get advice about which course he should take next term
C. To ask a question about a reading assignment
D. To request permission to take an advanced course
 
根据文章内容,B选项也可以很快被选出来,但是再看一下目的主旨句出现的位置:

通过图片我们能够很明显地看到,目的主旨题的出现位置已经到了文章的中后段。 
再来看第二个例子:
 
TPO6,Conversation 2: 
… 
Professor: You’d be surprised! 
Student:  So, anyway, my question is, do you think it'd be okay if I did a project like that for my term paper? You know, find students from different parts of the country, record them talking to each other in different combinations, report on how they accommodate their speech or not, that kind of thing?

 
1.Why does student go to see the professor?
A. She is having trouble finding topic for her term paper.
B. She needs his help to find resource materials.
C. She wants to ask him for an extension on a paper.
D. She wants him to approve her plans for a term paper.
根据学生说的话,这道题选D,那这句话在文章中的位置我们再来看一下:

那这个题体现的就更明显了,目的主旨出现的位置不仅不靠近开头,反而更靠近结尾。
 
根据上面的例子来看,目的主旨出现的位置肯定不只是在开头的,如果我们过于关注开头而忽略后面内容的话,就会非常容易出错或是听丢,大家在之后做题的过程中一定要小心才行,这样才能确保对话目的主旨题万无一失。
